to share God's love by teaching children
to love themselves, their peers, their community,
and all of God's creation.
REFLECTIONS FROM
LITTLE SPROUTS FAMILIES
"Little Sprouts is a place where children and their families can find and be part of a loving community." "I love that my son and the other kids at Little Sprouts learn to express and share their emotions with each other"
-Kim-Talkington Family
"The teachers at Little Sprouts are genuinely caring and create a loving environment that makes the kids feel right at home. My son loves his teachers and often talks about them! He learns how to share, take care of his fellow friends, lead the younger kids, and of course more traditional educational skills. He enjoys singing the songs he learns each day for us. The classrooms are cared for and always clean, and I feel so blessed to have found such a gem of a school."
-Yoon-Chang Family
"Both of our children grew up in the loving and nurturing environment of Little Sprouts. We enjoyed that it was affordable, neighborhood-based, and reflected the diversity and strengths of the Oakland community. Little Sprouts prepared our children both academically and socially for public school. We were so sad the day we finally had to say goodbye!"
-Fleischer-Ihn Family
Our Core
Teaching Tenants
Serving a Diverse Community
Little Sprouts is committed to maintaining ethnic, cultural, and economic diversity at the preschool, and our teaching methods reflect that.
We serve families from a richly diverse background, and our teaching team is trained to work cross-culturally. Part of this commitment includes dual language learning in Spanish and English.
Nurture Curiousity, Empathy,
Compassion, and Confidence
We foster intellectual curiosity through play-based learning. We practice empathy and compassion for others in all our play and time together. And, through these practices, we guide our children to grow in their confidence in a school environment.
Restorative Practices in Conflict Resolution
We are devoted to taking a “restorative approach”
to conflict resolution.
Our Program
In all that we do, we strive to:
Provide developmentally appropriate opportunities for children to grow in independence, responsibility, creativity, and self-expression.
Nurture intellectual curiosity and a lifelong love for learning.
Develop self-esteem through emotional, social, and spiritual growth.
Maintain limits on behavior in a way that enables inner impulse-control.
Grow an awareness of God’s love all around them.
We believe children actively learn through play and creative exploration. By teaching through play, kids get excited about learning and develop a strong sense of competence in a school environment.
So, what does a play-based learning environment look like at LSP?
Words, numbers, letters, colors, shapes and other concepts are presented to children as part of the world around them.
Concepts are shared repeatedly through play and in developmentally appropriate ways.
